02/Offer list

Five jobs a residential electrician in Phoenix gets called for.

Each one starts the same way: a site visit, the panel cover off, and a written load calculation. The price basis is printed on each row so you know what moves the number before anyone shows up.

  1. 01 Level 2 EV charger installation Dedicated 240 V circuit to a hardwired wall unit or a NEMA 14-50 receptacle. The load calc on your existing service decides the circuit size before anyone mentions a panel. Fixed written quote after a site visit; varies with cable run from panel to parking spot EV charger details
  2. 02 Panel upgrade and replacement 100 A services taken to 200 A, recalled and obsolete panels swapped out. We book the utility disconnect and reconnect so you are not chasing them. Written quote after inspection; utility and permit fees itemized separately Panel upgrade details
  3. 03 Rewiring and circuit modernization Ungrounded, cloth-jacket and aluminum branch circuits replaced room by room, with GFCI and AFCI protection where current code asks for it. Per-room scope in writing after an attic and wall survey Rewiring details
  4. 04 Lighting and ceiling fans Recessed retrofits, patio and exterior lighting. Ceiling fans go on fan-rated boxes, never on the old light box that happens to be there. Per-fixture scope confirmed on the written quote Lighting and fan details
  5. 05 Troubleshooting, repair and surge protection Dead, warm or tripping circuits traced to the actual fault, not masked with a bigger breaker. Whole-home surge protective device fitted at the panel. Diagnostic visit, then the repair quoted in writing before work starts Troubleshooting details

No price on this site is a binding quote. The binding number is the one written on your quote, after we have seen the panel, the attic and the run.

What a standard EV charger job actually includes.

This is the charger install most Phoenix garages get from us, written out line by line. If a quote you have in hand is vague on any of these rows, ask the other contractor about that row.

Typical Level 2 charger install · attached garage, panel on garage wall
ItemWhat you get
Load calculationWritten, on your existing service, before the quote. Existing loads, AC tonnage, range, dryer, pool pump, then the charger added on top.
Circuit size40 A for a 32 A charger · 60 A for a 48 A charger · 50 A for a NEMA 14-50
Why that sizeCharging is a continuous load, so the breaker is sized at 125% of what the charger draws.
ConductorCopper, 8 AWG or 6 AWG by circuit size and run length, upsized where an attic run needs derating
RacewaySurface conduit on garage walls, so the run is protected and can be changed later. NM cable only where it is concealed and rated for it.
ProtectionDedicated double-pole breaker. GFCI where a receptacle is used, as current code requires in a garage.
PermitPulled by LiveWire with the City of Phoenix. Fee itemized on the quote, not hidden in the labor.
TimingMost charger installs take one working day. Morning start, done before the afternoon heat where the run allows.
HandoverCharger set to the circuit rating, a test charge with you, the load calc sheet left with the homeowner.
Price basis: fixed written quote after a site visit. The main variable is cable run from panel to parking spot.

3 Years wiring Phoenix houses

Three years in Phoenix, all of it on houses.

LiveWire has worked out of a yard at 4605 E Mountain Vista Dr in Ahwatukee for three years. Every job in that time has been residential: garages, attics, kitchens, patios, the side wall of a stucco house where the meter lives. That focus is the whole point. A house electrician sees the same handful of failures over and over and gets fast at spotting them.

The one we see most is a tripping breaker somebody "fixed" with a bigger one. Bigger breaker, same wire. That is the fix we get called out to undo most often, and it is the reason we will not do it for anyone.

The other habit people notice is paperwork. The load calculation is written down and left with you, so you can check the sums yourself or hand them to the next contractor.

Work we turn down
  • Commercial or industrial work. We do houses. Not shops, not warehouses.
  • Solar array installation. We will check your panel for a solar backfeed, but the array is a different trade.
  • Generator transfer work we cannot inspect end to end.
  • Swapping a breaker for a bigger one to stop a trip. The trip is telling you something.
  • Quoting a panel upgrade before the load calculation says you need one.

How LiveWire works and why

04/Method

Four steps from the first call to a signed-off inspection.

The order never changes. The sums come before the price, and the permit comes before the drill.

  1. STEP 01

    Site visit and load calc

We take the dead front off the panel, read the main breaker and the bus rating, note every large appliance and measure the run to where the work goes. Then the arithmetic: what the service carries now and what is left.

  2. STEP 02

    Written quote

One page with the scope, the materials by size, permit and utility fees on their own lines, and the load calc attached. If the answer is "you need a circuit, not a panel", that is what the quote says.

  3. STEP 03

    Permit and install

Permit pulled under LiveWire. Install booked for an early start in summer. Most charger installs take one working day; panels and rewires are scheduled around the utility and the rooms involved.

  4. STEP 04

    Inspection and handover

The city inspector signs it off. You get the labeled panel schedule, manufacturer warranty paperwork and a walk through what changed and why.

05/Straight answers

The questions homeowners ask before they book us.

  • Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?

Often not. If your 100 amp service can carry a 40 amp charger circuit, we will tell you, and you keep the money a panel would have cost. When it cannot, because the house already runs a 5-ton AC, an electric range and a pool pump on that service, the calculation shows it and the quote says so.

  • Why not just put a bigger breaker in?

The breaker protects the wire. Upsize the breaker and the wire behind it can now carry more current than its insulation is rated for, inside a wall, in an attic that hits 140°F. We find why it trips. Usually an overloaded circuit, a loose backstab connection or a failing device.

  • Why is there no price on the website?

Because the same charger can be a ten-foot run on the garage wall or an eighty-foot run through an attic to a carport. We give the basis for each job instead, and a fixed written quote after we have seen the house. Permit and utility fees are always on their own lines.

  • Who is this not for?

Businesses, landlords wanting a commercial fit-out, and anyone shopping for the fastest breaker swap in town. We work on owner-occupied houses and we do the sums first. If you want a number over the phone without anyone looking at the panel, we are the wrong call.

06/Contact

Book the load check. Then decide.

Tell us what you are adding or what keeps tripping. If you know the amperage on your main breaker, put it in. A phone photo of the panel label helps more than anything. We call back to set a site visit.
